Meet Chris

Chris is a leader. He has served as a firefighter for over 20 years, he’s an award-winning advocate for firefighters, public safety, and environmental causes, and highly respected by his peers all over North America.

Chris was raised by his hardworking parents who taught him about struggle, sacrifice, family commitment, and respect for all people. Chris attended Minneapolis public schools where the values of respecting the humanity and dignity of individuals was nurtured, as well as the seeking of justice for all people.

When I was 2 my folks moved their young family to Minneapolis from a small river town in Iowa. My parents were looking for a better life and they found it in Minneapolis. I was raised in a diverse, welcoming, and safe community. I want every child in Minneapolis to be so lucky.

Chris attended college at the University of Wisconsin- River Falls where he earned a Bachelor’s in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. Not long after he joined the Saint Paul Fire Department where he has served over 20 years and holds the rank of Captain.

My work in serving the public gives has afforded me a window into the lives of countless folks in my community. I see people struggling every single day and I want to work to build a city where everyone can thrive.

Chris has been forceful advocate for public safety and workers rights with a focus on adequate staffing and fair wages and benefits. As President of the Minnesota Professional firefighters for the last 7 years Chris has received much acclaim for his work on environmental issues, mental health, efforts to reduce exposure of firefighters to harmful chemicals, and protecting healthcare workers should they contract COVID-19.

I’m very proud of the work I have been doing to protect the lives and livelihoods of firefighters and more recently the tens of thousands of front-line workers who are standing with us as we square off against COVID-19. Now more than ever, Ward 10 and Minneapolis needs tested leaders to step forward and help us navigate these trying times. That is why I am running.
